Do we love our pets more than our significant others?


AUSTRALIANS love their pets… pet ownership in this country is one of the highest in the world, and we are spending just over ONE BILLION DOLLARS every month on our pets… feeding, grooming, going to the vet and so on.


But why do we love them so much? Why have dogs in particular become so much a part of modern family life? They were working animals only 100 years ago…now they occupy prized positions in the household.


DOCTOR JOHN BRADSHAW has spent a career, examining the behaviour and welfare of domestic cats and dogs and their relationships with people… and he explains his findings in his latest book, THE ANIMALS AMONG US: HOW PETS MAKE US HUMAN.
